If your art practice were a super s/heroix what would she/he/they look like?
(I just learned the nonbinary version of ‘hero’ is ‘heroix’. Thanks Nonbinary Wiki!)
I’ve been pondering this question the last month as I delved into the fourth bullet point of the RockStar Artist Manifesto: S/Hero Your Art!
An art practice can play many roles in our lives. Mine has played the nurse, the therapist, the jester, the best friend, and many other bit-parts over the years. As the artist, I’ve learned to play the role of the agent and cajole my practice into performing roles I need to survive and thrive.
But I’ve only recently recognised my art practice as a Super(s)hero. If she had her own trading card, it would look something like this:
She’s an alter-ego of course (I have many) and she has an old English name like Elwyna (friend of the elves) or Rheda (goddess).
Rheda Elwyna—there you go, that shall be her name.
Rheda Elwyna has numerous superpowers but her creativity is the one that wins the game; she always finds creative solutions to challenges and knows how to use what’s around her to craft tools, potions, and paints to energise and beautify her life and those of the people around her.
I love being in her presence.
She is a goddess and I’m her best friend.
What would your art practice look like if it were a Superheroix?
What would are its superpowers be?
Create an image of your art practice as a Superheroix.
Use whichever artistic methods you prefer—collage, paint, pencil, procreate, print, photography, stitch.
